UB Equestrian Team held their first Spring Semester practice this past Sunday. The team rode in rotation demonstrating some of their best over fences and flat work. After the horses were put away, the team gathered for a lecture by Elley Newton, renowned dressage rider of Walnut Grove Farm, to discuss equestrian sports psychology, and add skills to the phrase that UBET loves so much: "mental toughness". Riding is mostly a mental game, and Elley shared with the team that a study done on olympic athletes demonstrated that spending 75% on mental training and 25% on physical training improved overall performance. The team participated in an array of exercises in hope to improve their overall performance at their next show - Cornell University, February 16th, 2014.
